Stephen Fry and Paul Merton urge Direct Line customers to eschew price comparison sites

LONDON - Insurance brand Direct Line has hired high-profile comics Stephen Fry and Paul Merton as the voices of its forthcoming marketing campaigns. The activity will encourage consumers to abandon price comparison websites and go straight to the RBS-owned brand.

The new animated campaign, which breaks on 5 January, will recreate the style of the brand's launch advertising in 1985. Fry, the host of BBC panel comedy show QI, will provide the voice for Direct Line's famed red phone, while ‘Have I Got News For You' veteran Merton will voice the brand's mouse character.

The ads promote Direct Line's motor, home, pet, travel and life insurance products. The TV, radio, press, direct mail and digital campaign was created by M&C Saatchi, with media buying by Mediacom.
