Starcom MediaVest tops global media agency report

LONDON - Publicis' Starcom MediaVest Group has been ranked as the number one global media agency with projected billings of $20.4bn in 2004.

According to media agency research company RECMA's Projected Billings and Rankings 2004, Starcom, which is led by Mark Cranmer in Europe, achieved a 9.7% growth rate on top of $20.4bn in projected billings over the year.

Ranking in second place was Omnicom's OMD with $20bn and 9.3% growth.

In third place, WPP's MindShare had $18.7bn in projected billings and an 8% growth.

Fourth and fifth place belonged to Aegis-owned Carat and WPP's Mediaedge:cia with $18.6bn and $15.4bn respectvely.

Ranking in the next seven places in order were Zenith Optimedia, Universal McCann, Mediacom, Initiative, MPG, PHD and Vizeum.

The report includes global billings for 12 networks and seven groups with rankings, market shares and growth rates.

Starcom has ranked in the top three media agency networks for the past three years. 

RECMA research, founded in 1992, is based on a network with more than 300 partners ranging from trade press to ad monitoring research companies.
