Star Alliance shortlists five for direct marketing account

LONDON - The Star Alliance has shortlisted five agencies to pitch for the direct marketing account for its international frequent-flyer programme that links into members' own loyalty schemes.

The global network of international airlines, whose members include bmi and Lufthansa, is understood to have shortlisted EHS Brann, Draft, FCBi and Harrison Troughton Wunderman to pitch for its business.

Last year Star Alliancehas hired FoxKalomaski to handle its £500,000 through-the-line account following a seven-way pitch. The specialist travel and retail agency was appointed to devise advertising, sales promotion and direct marketing campaigns.

The direct marketing review follows news earlier this week that the 16-member network had consolidated its £136m global media business into the WPP buying arm, GroupM, following a review.

Other airlines in the Star Alliance include United Airlines, Singapore Airlines and Air Canada.
