Lufthansa has appointed Dieter Grotepass as sales and marketing chief for the UK and Ireland, after incumbent Eric Burgoyne left to become vice-president of marketing for Atlantic Adventures in Honolulu.
Grotepass joins the airline's management team in Heathrow from his post as general manager of market presence with the Star Alliance, based in Frankfurt. The alliance is led by Lufthansa and United Airlines.
Grotepass will report to Lufthansa's regional vice-president, Ulrich Wachter. A 30-year veteran of Lufthansa, Grotepass held marketing and sales positions in Japan, Sweden and Germany from 1978 to 1998.
In July, Lufthansa moved its pounds 20m global ad account into McCann-Erickson Worldwide. Incumbent Springer & Jacoby International declined to repitch for the business. The airline's global planning and buying is handled by MindShare Worldwide.
