STA Travel redesigns website to broaden appeal

LONDON - STA Travel has revamped its website to be more competitive with other online travel services and attract a wider audience than its traditional base of students and young people.

The new pushes the sales element more than previously, while maintaining the research element.

STA Travel has also improved its online book facility and developed its , which is one of its most popular services.

The site already has 400,000 unique visitors a month, and a monthly email newsletter is sent out to 212,000 people.

STA Travel said 99% of the 5.2m students in the UK have internet access. Its website already helps to generate high demand for branches and drives between 50% and 60% of all telesales calls.

Anna Bacon, the internet marketing manager at STA Travel, said: "We decided to redesign our site to maximise the online sales potential by illustrating our diverse product offering, while maintaining our brand personality."

The company started in Australia in 1979 offering special deals for students. It now has more than 450 branches worldwide, including 65 located on UK high streets and university campuses.
