Visitors will be able to walk along the closed road from St Paul’s to Poultry, while 150 shops take part in the day with deals and hospitality.

Outdoor ice skating at Bow Churchyard and a Christmas grotto and bell ringing at St Vedast church are among the events, as well as performances from the Guildhall School of Music and readings from Harry Potter novels at Leadenhall Market.

The Royal Exchange will host a giant jewellery box measuring 8ft by 4ft with dance shows from a Snow Queen ballerina inside. Boodles, Jo Malone and Lulu Guinness stores will serve champagne and canapés.

Shopping centre One New Change will hold a Christmas fair with a performance from St Paul’s Choir on the roof terrace.

The events are part of the Cheapside Initiative, which promotes Cheapside as a retail and leisure destination.
