Sony launches T300 with the Muppets

LONDON - Mobile phone manufacturer Sony Ericsson is to use a Valentine's Day-linked pan-European promotion featuring the Muppets as part of the launch of its T300 multimedia mobile handset to 18- to 35-year-olds across Europe.

The campaign, through youth marketing agency Iris, is timed to coincide with Valentine's Day and is based on the theme "Love is in the air". It uses images that portray Muppet Show characters Miss Piggy, Kermit and Animal as flirt ambassadors, promoting the use of mobile phones for flirting.

Customers who buy a T300 phone throughout February will receive a free "flirt pack" installed in the phone. The pack includes Muppet pictures, a voucher for five polyphonic love-themed ring-tones, a snap-on mobile love-heart laser pointer and a guide on how to use multimedia messaging.

Matthias Hetzel, Sony Ericsson European promotions manager, said: "The Muppets have a wide appeal and we are confident that it will attract a much larger customer base as well as encourage the use of new services."

Data collected from the promotion will be used for future promotional activity.

The offer will be supported by in-store marketing literature and local press advertising across Europe.
