Sony Ericsson signs R&B star Usher for Walkman range

LONDON - Sony Ericsson has signed R&B singer Usher to front the European advertising for its latest Walkman phones.

The mobile phone handset maker will also become the headline sponsor for Usher's European tour later this year.

The company's marketing activities will revolve around the W350 Walkman phone, launched earlier this year, and the W980 Walkman phone, which boasts clear audio technology and is to be launched later in the year.

John Bernard, music marketing manager at Sony Ericsson, said: "Working with an artist such as Usher is an ideal fit for us. Here we are at the start of an electrifying launch campaign, poised to deliver a totally 360-degree experience for all consumers and Usher fans alike, it's truly an exciting prospect."

Sony Ericsson's sister company, the music label Sony BMG, will be releasing the follow up to Usher's album 'Confessions' on May 26, called 'Here I Stand'.

The partnership also includes access to exclusive content, competitions to meet Usher on the set of a video shoot and the chance to win tour tickets.

Usher said: "This is a great partnership for me as an artist. Sony Ericsson are a young vibrant brand and with their Walkman phones making a lot of noise out there right now its perfect timing for us all."
