The , which was launched by Social Professional, is being described by its creators as the first "social professional" online network for the marketing communications industry.
The site features forums on a breadth of topics, including advertising, branding, direct marketing and sponsorship.
The creators said the free-to-use site was devised to allow professionals within their industry to collaborate, network and communicate in a secure, moderated environment.
Among the main features are reverse chronological ordering of blogs, an option to create an alter ego to encourage more honest debate, a RSS feed service to keep abreast of market developments and make personal recommendations, and discipline specific forums for comment.
said marketing agencies would be able to use MarCom Professional as an intranet facility by creating a closed, securely hosted online environment for staff to work in.
The site has attracted a host of senior professionals from across the marketing communications industry, including: Stephen Waddington, managing director of Rainier PR; Rupert Ashe, chief finance officer and commercial director at VideoJug; Philip Sheldrake, director of Racepoint Group UK; and Gabbi Cahane, managing director of Ammunition.
Andrew Betts, director of Social Professional, said: "People are familiar with social networks, but until now they have not focused on a specific profession.
"MarCom Professional is designed entirely for the marketing communications profession from the ground up, and presents the opportunity to make marketing communicators the pioneers in adopting such a network to inform, learn and entertain."
The privately owned company, which was set up for the purpose of developing social networks such as MarCom Professional, said it planned to launch further networks across other professions in the future.
