Social networking site launched for amateur sporting community

LONDON - A social networking site called unifysport.com has launched in the UK for the amateur sporting community.

Unifysport.com aims to allow amateur sportsmen and women to connect and engage with each other to organise teams, fixtures and social events.

The site, which is free to join, will host a database of the UK's amateur sporting talent, with user generated content including player ratings, statistics relevant to each individual sport, match reports and player and team homepages.

Users will be able to upload photographs and videos, discuss fixtures and arrange social events.

Mike Sastry, chief operating officer of unifysport.com and former executive programme manager at Lastminute.com, said: "In addition to the social networking features on unifysport.com, it brings together the fragmented nature of British amateur sport in a format that people are now familiar with.

"It offers a simple and fun way to manage your team or sport participation, equipping players and managers with the tools to get the most out of their amateur sports, while encouraging the kind of dressing room banter that makes people feel part of a team."

"Our goal is to have people from every sport using the site for the day-to-day mechanics of being part of and running a team.

"That's everything from finding out where the next match is and who's available, to whose turn it is to wash the kit.

"The site will also help link those players who are looking for a team up with teams looking for players."
