Snapchat owner Snap has poached AOL's James Gover to manage agency relationships.

Snapchat appoints AOL's James Gover

Gover has been AOL’s global agency director, with responsibility for its relationship with WPP, since July 2015.

After working for five years at Microsoft, where he was also global agency director for WPP, Gover moved to AOL when it began handling Microsoft’s ad sales.

Industry sources confirmed the move without saying what his exact responsibilities at Snap will be.

Gover has previously worked at agencies including Initiative in London and Tokyo, Mindshare and UM.

Snap is aggressively expanding ahead of a likely stock-market flotation next year, while AOL owner Verizon is in the process of buying Yahoo.

A number of executives have left AOL and Yahoo ahead of an expected merger, including Nick Hugh who left Yahoo to join Telegraph Media Group.

Hamish Nicklin quit AOL for The Guardian, before the Yahoo takeover was announced.
