Small print lands Ebookers 'Maori' poster ad in hot water

LONDON - Online travel firm ebookers.com is in trouble over an ad that promised an incredibly cheap trip to New Zealand -- but only mentioned in the small print that it did not include flights.

The ad, created by Team Saatchi, read "Want Maori for your money?" It went to on say: "New Zealand. Fourteen nights from 拢319".

However, it was not until the small print that it stated that the offer excluded international flights, leading to a complaint that it was misleading because it was not clear enough that flights and transfers were not included.

The Advertising Standards Authority upheld the complaint, saying that the ad did not make it clear that it was only accommodation included in the price, and that the small print could easily be overlooked.

has been asked to ensure that any significant exclusions or conditions of an offer were stated in the body copy in future.

Team Saatchi was hired by ebookers in January, the first time that the travel company has used a creative agency.
