Sky1 secures rights to US drama Lie To Me starring Tim Roth

LONDON - Sky1 has secured the exclusive UK TV rights to the hotly anticipated US drama 'Lie To Me', which marks 'Pulp Fiction' actor Tim Roth's first foray into television.

The deal with 20th Century Fox Television Distribution will give Sky1 exclusive free and basic TV rights.

Sky1 has also acquired the non-exclusive rights for video-on-demand and download-to-own, and the series will also be broadcast in high definition.

The series will launch on Sky1 and Sky1 HD in spring 2009. Roth, who recently starred in the movie 'The Incredible Hulk' opposite Ed Norton, stars as Dr Cal Lightman, a scientist who studies facial expressions and involuntary body language to discover not only if someone is lying but why.

Lightman heads up a private agency contracted by the FBI, local police, law firms, corporations and private individuals.

David Smyth, head of acquisitions, Sky1, Sky2 and Sky3, said: "'Lie To Me' is an exemplary procedural drama and we know it will resonate with Sky's customers.

"The series is generating tremendous buzz in the US and, in a huge show of confidence, has been awarded the much coveted post-American Idol slot.

"We're thrilled to continue our partnership with Fox and to strengthen our exceptional slate of US programming."

'Lie To Me' joins a raft of US imports on Sky1 including series seven of '24', 'Battlestar Galactica' and soon the fifth season of 'Lost'.
