The application includes content from Sky Sports, Sky Sports News, Sky News, ESPN and At The Races and means users can watch coverage of live games from the Barclays Premier League, Guinness Premiership Rugby and breaking news bulletins from their iPhone handset.

Consumers can use the application to view the Sky Mobile electronic programme guide for free, but must subscribe and register for a Sky customer ID, and pay £6 month, to watch TV.

David Gibbs, general manager for mobile at Sky, said the new Sky Mobile TV app combines the "demand for great live TV on the move with the high quality viewing experience" offered by iPhone and iPod touch.

Gibbs said Sky Mobile TV offers "more choice, control and flexibility" for customers ensuring they can access the "content they want, at a time that's convenient to them, on the screen of their choosing".

The app is available from the iTunes store. Other iPhone and iPod touch apps from Sky include Sky+ Remote Record, Sky News, Sky Sports Cricket Score Centre and Sky Sports Football Score Centre and Sky said there has been two million downloads of Sky apps to date.
