Sky reaches 3m HD customers as it adds Living HD to line-up

BSkyB has passed three million HD customers and announced today's launch of Living HD on its platform means it will definitely reach its target of 50 high definition channels in time for Christmas.

Living HD is the 46th high definition channel on the Sky platform. UKTV channel Good Food HD launched earlier this week and the high definition versions of UKTV channel Eden, ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 will bring the offering up to 50.

and simulcasts the Living schedule with shows such as 'Britain's Next Top Model' presented by Elle Macpherson, and the 'CSI' franchise.

The Sky+ HD boxes are offered to Sky customers for free when they sign up to Sky TV and the Sky+ HD pack for the first time. They are 3D ready so will be able to receive Sky's 3D channel when it launches on 1 October.

Sophie Turner Laing, managing director of entertainment, news and broadcast operations, said: "Sky recognised the potential of HD early and we are delighted it has grown into something which our customers utterly love and now demand as standard.

"We look forward to offering our customers even more choice of HD as well as new innovations such as Sky 3D and Anytime+. With so much brilliant content coupled with ground breaking innovation, it's no wonder that we've seen such strong growth in HD."

Living is part of the Living TV Group, formerly Virgin Media Television, which . The channels are being run as a separate business pending regulatory approval.
