Sky News scoops satellite industry award

LONDON - Sky News, BSkyB's 24-hour news channel, has scooped the satellite industry's Hot Bird award for TV News.

The ceremony was held at Sat Expo, the satellite industry's annual satellite broadcasting forum. The awards are organised by French-based satellite operator Eutelsat and are named after their fleet of Hot Bird satellites.

The panel of judges, comprising international media journalists, said Sky News won the award "for the comprehensive nature of its current affairs coverage". This, they said, is "enriched by reportage, in-depth treatment and analysis alongside reporting, its ability to offer an attentive and up-to-date presentation of events in Europe and around the world, relayed with great energy.

Sky News beat rival satellite broadcast news services BBC World and RaiMed, an Italian and Arabic service.
