The Sky News radio service has won new contracts from Chrysalis and The Wireless Group to supply national news, previously supplied by ITN-owned Independent Radio News, to complement the stations' local radio bulletins.
The service, second only to IRN in the UK, is now being supplied to 30 UK radio stations, of which 20 subscribe to a 24-hour networked news bulletin.
Chrysalis-owned Heart FM and Galaxy Radio, which have their own newsrooms, have contracted Sky to supply them with a radio news feed.
Sky News has also renewed a deal to supply talkSPORT with a bespoke bulletin for a further two years. The deals with Chrysalis, talkSPORT and The Wireless Group will see the service broadcast to 8.5m listeners. Other clients include the Digital News Network and Radio First.
The news will soften last week's disappointment for BSkyB, whose Channel 3 News consortium was beaten in the first stage of the race for the ITV news contract by incumbent ITN.
Mike Flanagan, operations director at Chrysalis Radio, said, "It'll be a great resource for our Heart and Galaxy newsrooms, especially during busy times when major stories are breaking."
