The channel offers web users content and audio-visual content from the Sky News service and Sky News Active and consists of a menu of eight mini-screens of news content.
These screens will be dedicated to business, showbusiness, weather and other issues of the day.
The service shadows the Sky News output and offers subscribers a supplementary service to the Sky News channel, showing repeats of press conferences and news events.
Sky News Active Online is the second broadband service to be launched by Sky. In February, Sky Sports launched Sky Sports Active Online, with eight screens of sports action.
"Sky is dedicated to providing content-rich broadband services. Sports and news are trailblazers in this area, renowned for their interactive services. We're offering the same premium content and interactivity online. Sky has a stable of channels which we're drawing on and we will look to further enhance our broadband content offering in the coming months, particularly in the fields of entertainment, music and gaming," Tom Symonds, general manager of Sky Online, said.
