Sky News HD will air in Spring 2010 following an upgrade of its broadcasting studios, production facilities and newsgathering operations in the UK and overseas.
It will be the first UK news channel to broadcast in HD. It will broadcast alongside the existing Sky News channel.
Production teams will have to undertake extra training in order to get the most from the HD technology and use it effectively.
More than one million customers have subscribed to Sky+HD. Sky has 33 HD channels including Sky Movies, Sky Sports, Channel 4, Disney, MTV, BBC, Discovery, FX, Sky1 and National Geographic.
