Sky boosts its online comedy offering

LONDON - Sky is expanding its online portal, beefing up its comedy offering by striking a deal with Funnyordie.com, a new comedy portal backed by Little Britain comedians Matt Lucas and David Walliams.

Sky boosts its online comedy offering

Through the tie-up, Sky.com will promote selected Funnyordie.com content across its network of websites, including exclusive preview clips of Little Britain USA.

In addition, Sky's digital sales house, Sky Digital Media will handle ad sales for the website in the UK, providing the site with banners, skyscrapers, leaderboards and MPUs.

The deal continues Sky's bid to become a broad online entertainment portal, following the recent addition of its own and third-parties' content around genres including motoring, music, technology, movies and travel.

Funnyordie.com was created by US comedians Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Chris Henchy. It combines user-generated video with professionally made content from a host of high-profile comedians. Users can view each others' profiles and vote or comment on their favourite videos.

The UK version of the site will combine edited content from the US site with newly created UK-specific content.

Carly Crouse, director of content at Sky's online business unit, said the addition of Funnyordie.com content, combined with its own expanding portfolio of sites, "means that we can offer users one of the richest choices of online content on the web".
