Skins to get French version as US speculation builds

LONDON - Independent distribution company All3Media has helped Company Pictures sell the rights to E4's hit teen drama series 'Skins' to France's largest pay-TV broadcaster Canal+.

All3Media also finalised a deal between Company Pictures and Canal+'s Ecosse Films to produce an eight-part thriller series, 'Cape Wrath', which will star David Morrissey, at the MipTV conference in Cannes yesterday.

'Skins' debut series, which aired at the beginning of the year, proved to be a timely ratings hit for E4, garnering 1.4m viewers on its opening night and making it the fourth-highest rated programme on the channel since it launched in 2001.

Company Pictures helped create a substantial word of mouth for the show by broadcasting one episode a day via the show's MySpace prior to its TV launch.

Reports suggest that All3Media is looking at commissioning a US remake of 'Skins', which follows the lives of a group of Bristol teenagers, but the distributor could not be reached for comment.
