ScotRail tests SMS to promote mini-breaks

LONDON - Scotrail have teamed up with digital mobile agency Incentivated to launch the SMS trial to push its ShortBreak packages.

Launched today, the three-month campaign will help First ScotRail build its customer database for future SMS activity and enable targeting of the ShortBreak brochure more effectively.

The SMS allows recipients to text their details to receive a brochure.

Peter Williams, ScotRail head of marketing, said: "This is the first time we've employed SMS in this way so we are interested to compare response rates with more traditional marketing techniques."

Williams said that if successful, text messaging would be rolled out for other ScotRail marketing activity.

Mark Jones, Incentivated business development manager, said: "This is a simple and highly deliverable mechanic which targets customers directly and has already proved to be a popular communication channel."

Last week the digital agency launched the first mobile Giftaid service for Macmillan Cancer Support. The service sends a WAP push to a user when they text in to donate via premium reverse SMS.
