Schwarzenegger hits YouTube to cheerlead USA World Cup bid

LONDON - California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is using YouTube to campaign for the return of the Fifa World Cup to the US in 2018 or 2022.

Schwarzenegger was named as a member of the board of directors for the USA Bid Committee earlier this week.

The 'Terminator' actor has filmed a message of support for the committee as it prepares its application and campaign to bring the Fifa World Cup back to the US, which first hosted the tournament in 1994.

Schwarzenegger said earlier this week: "Soccer is the world's most popular sport and California has been home to some of its most exciting games, and I am proud to be a part of bringing the World Cup back to the United States.

"The millions of fans from around the globe that will travel to the US to cheer their teams will prove a great benefit for our state, our nation and the world of soccer."

Schwarzenegger also told his quarter of a million followers about his role yesterday.

The US is one of nine candidate nations that have formally declared their desire to host the Fifa World Cup in 2018 or 2022.
