The garments, which will feature song lyrics, will be carried in 281 of the supermarket's 545 UK stores.

The collection, including items for men, women and children, will be emblazoned with words from classic songs in EMI's catalogue, including ‘My Girl', ‘Wild Thing' and ‘Dancing In The Street'.

The deal was brokered by licensing agency Corporate Creative Licensing, in conjunction with EMI Music Publishing's head of media licensing Steve Hills and Tu childrenswear buying manager John Carolan

Sainsbury's is the UK's 10th-biggest clothing retailer by volume, with year-on-year growth of 40% in 2007.
