The RSPCA plans to start building the kennels at Felledge in the North East on 18 May at a cost of £1.52 per square inch.
The integrated campaign asks supporters to donate as many square inches as they can so that the kennels can be finished in time for Christmas.
Running regionally and nationally, the campaign consists of a microsite featuring a video by local RSPCA chief inspector Michelle Charlton, an email broadcast, a warm direct mail pack to 185,000 RSPCA supporters, and a door drop to 322,000 homes in the North East.
When finished, the Felledge Animal Centre will have three kennel blocks providing facilities such as isolation units and a veterinary suite, catering for rescued dogs while they wait to be re-homed.
The RSPCA currently does not have kennel facilities of its own in the North East, which is the busiest region for the charity. This means that RSPCA inspectors have to call on local commercial kennels for accommodation, which is costly in time and resources.
Whitewater's other charity clients include NSPCC, MS Society, RNLI, Save the Children and Water Aid.
