Armstrong, who has worked on projects for Monarch Airlines and B&Q, knew that Romania was a candidate country for the European Union and that Denmark is Europe's highest taxed country when 53% and 68% of marketers got the question wrong.
Marketers were better at the sports questions, with 54% answering correctly that AC Milan's Andrily Shevchenko was European footballer of the year for 2004.
Armstrong said: "It's surprising how little we know about Europe. I don't know whether it's the language barrier or because we're 'Little Englanders'. Whatever the reason, we shouldn't take that attitude because Europe is a big market and the UK is the launchpad into Europe for American business."
The quiz was organised by pan-European database company EuroContactPool, which holds 12.9m individuals across 10 countries.
