Reckitt Benckiser profits rise

LODNON - Reckitt Benckiser has announced that its revenue is up substantially, its sales having been boosted by the swine-flu outbreak .

The household goods manufacturer, whose brands include Dettol and Nurofen, has reported a 40% rise in half-year pre-tax profits, to £816m in the first half of its financial year.

Reckitt Benckiser chief executive officer Bart Becht said the company had several products to help with swine flu. The group also owns cold and flu-remedy brand Lemsip and the Cillit Bang cleaning range.

As a result of strong growth in the first half, Becht said the company would raise its targets for the 2009 financial year.
