Worldpride is being hosted by the annual Pride London event and takes place at least once every five years in a different city worldwide. The festival aims to celebrate the cultural diversity of the global LGBT community.
A series of cultural and campaigning events will kick off London’s festival with an opening ceremony in the streets of Soho on 17 June, building up to a parade day on 7 July.
Pride London will host campaigning events, including a gala dinner and conference, to discuss the issues facing the global LGBT community. The central theme of the fortnight will be to call for the global decriminalisation of homosexuality.
Entertainment events across London venues include the return of Pride Pooch, a dog show run in conjunction with Battersea Cats and Dogs Home with prizes for the ‘Dandiest Dog’ and ‘Prettiest Bitch’.
Gay bar 79 CXR will hold a fashion show and open-air jazz and wine evenings and club nights will be put on throughout the city. The Blue Elephant Theatre in Camberwell will be the site for an original theatre piece - The Fantastical Adventures of (not) Being with You.
Patrick Williams, chair of Pride London, said: "Our team has worked hard to produce a festival that’s bigger and better than ever before. Not only do these events highlight the cultural diversity of the LGBT community, they also provide a vibrant backdrop to our campaigns."
