The festival called Portsmouth: Space City will take place from 16 – 26 June and features music, theatre, film, talks, poetry, literature, family events, exhibitions, outdoor events in venues across the city.
Walk the Plank is working with Portsmouth Festivities on the project entitled Lift Off, and is inspired by space and the science of flight.
A programme of workshops with schools and community groups will lead up to a major free finale featuring a carnival procession involving hundreds of local people, and a Twilight Fire Show on 26 June on Castle Field.
Other key partners include Portsmouth City Council, Astrium, The Southern Cooperative, Gunwharf Quays, Lockheed Martin, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Colas.
"We're delighted to be asked back to Portsmouth," said Walk the Plank producer Liz Pugh.
"We'd like the show to include significant figures in the history of flight - from Icarus with his wax wings flying too close to the sun, to the astronauts who orbit the earth in today's space stations."
In 2009 the Portsmouth Festival was based on the theme of Ghost Ship.
