Organised by Shuttlecock Inc, the launch event took place at the former Monikers restaurant in Hoxton earlier this week (17 March).
Fronted by Shuttlecock's latest comedy creation, Arnaud Hérouville-Saint-Clair-Escoffier, great-grandson of culinary legend, Auguste, and chef/proprietor of Parisian institution, La Constellation - named for its unrivalled string of Michelin stars - the event put culinary skills to the test.
Inspired by some of Arnaud's most famous recipes and using three key ingredients bought from the market that morning, two challengers created their own three-course menu for the evening’s diners, with each course going to a vote when the plates were cleared.
Guests enjoyed an aperitif to start, before feasting on dishes including scallops with salsify and grapefruit; scallops, cauliflower puree and nut; pork neck and horseradish; pig cheek, puy lentils and celeriac remoulade; chocolate and pistachio tart; and chocolate fondant.
Max Passetti, chef at Bocca di Lupo, was crowned the winner on the launch night, having battled against Ollie Templeton, former chef at Moro.
The event is being held across two weeks at the same venue, until 29 March, with the theme of two chefs from both sides of the Channel doing battle with their culinary skills across three starters, mains and desserts.
The chef line-up includes James Night (Moro), Freddy Money (The Dorchester Hotel) and Tom Straker (The Ledbury).
