In pictures: The Producers crashes UKIP conference

Organisers of wartime comedy musical The Producers enlisted agency Taylor Herring to help crash a UKIP conference in Margate, Kent today (27 February).

Dancers and actors rolled into the town alongside a 16-tonne World War II tank to upstage the political party’s meet at the Winter Gardens, where members of Nigel Farage’s organisation were present for the unveiling of the UKIP General Election campaign manifesto.

Taylor Herring blasted the song Springtime for Hitler, a hit from the show, from a PA system on the tank, which was decorated with Nazi emblems. Dancers dressed in Gestapo-style boots and insignia – and hot pants – then performed a goose-stepping routine in front of the venue as the party attempted to greet the media ahead of the three-day conference.

The stunt was designed to promote the new touring production of the Mel Brooks musical, which opens in Bromley on 7 March.

Adam Spiegel, producer of the show, said: "We open the UK tour of The Producers in Bromley next week and Margate seemed a perfect place to start the promotion."
