More than 400 corporate meetings and event buyers visited the venue to view the £700k refurbishment, which brought together the Queenhithe and the Upper River Room to form a new 600-person capacity space.
The event saw the Lower River Room transformed into Borough Market, with pop-up stalls offering a variety of food to sample including Neal’s Yard cheese, Borough’s fish catch and pie and mash. In-house supplier Create Food and Party Design catered the upper space with finger food and grazing stations.
The venue’s new Roommatch audio system was showcased in the auditorium as Matthew Crowe & Sooz Kempner performed on stage. There was also a photobooth, DJ set and giant iTabs - large-scale interactive screens - for guests to enjoy on the night.
Alicia Duncan, general manager at The Mermaid, said: "The party really was a fantastic way to celebrate the final stage of the refurbishment and showcase not only the flexibility of our spaces but also our service delivery and the way we respond to client demands. I would very much like to thank everyone who attended the party and in particular our partners on the night who made the event extra special."
Louise Drake, meetings and events consultant at hotel booking agency Inntel, added: "This was a spectacular birthday party. It clearly demonstrated The Mermaid’s capabilities for events at their best. The venue has a brilliant location and great facilities for both meetings and parties, complimented by diligent customer service from every member of the team."
