Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po appeared near the Oxo Tower, encouraging passers-by to come in for free hugs with a hand-drawn sign.

A queue for hugs with the colourful band of four quickly formed. The characters greeted both toddlers and commuters looking for a photo opportunity and a hit of nostalgia.

Agency Premier devised the live stunt.

A relaunched series of Teletubbies will launch on Cbeebies next Monday (9 November), nearly 20 years after it first appeared. The new show features voices from the likes of Fearne Cotton, Jane Horrocks or Jim Broadbent.

In other children's TV news, yesterday (4 November) saw to promote its new Wabbit: A Looney Tunes Production programme.
