In pictures: BBC One unveils 12-metre mural to mark the return of Luther

BBC One revealed a 12-metre long mural inspired by its crime drama series Luther, at Shoreditch High Street in east London last night (15 December), to celebrate the return of the programme.

The artwork depicts the iconic skyline from the Luther credits, and includes a large illustration of the show's protagonist at its centre. Steel rods protrude outwards from Luther, played by Idris Elba, and text that reads "Are you scared of me? You should be" surrounds him.

Artists began work on the mural last Saturday (12 December) and it was revealed as Luther went on air last night (16 December).

BBC selected immersive content company Allez Studio, part of the Output Group, to create the mural, who enlisted the help of companies Diabolical and Graffitilife to bring the design to life.

The installation will remain in situ for one week, and will be available to view until next Tuesday (22 December).

Laura Newman-Cardwell, creative producer at Allez Studio said: "We were honoured to work with the BBC on bringing to life one of their most iconic programmes of recent years. We wanted to introduce the grittiness of the Luther storylines into a piece of art, so we worked with some of the country’s best graffiti artists and utilised tools such as spray paint and marker pen art to depict the show in a different way.

"Our aim was to create a mural which sparks creativity and innovation and gets people as excited about the Luther 2 part special as we are."

Disney landed a from Star Wars on the walkway underneath London's Southwark Bridge in October.
