Guests were treated to cocktails, prosecco and canapés including coronation chicken in cucumber cups and cocktail chorizo sausages with lemon mayonnaise dip.
After admiring the venue’s newly opened meeting and exhibition space they were ushered into the 600-seater auditorium, grabbing a pot of bacon flavoured popcorn, smoked almonds or tom yum crackers on the way in.
The evening’s entertainment was a show introduced by Richard Groves, managing director of Create. The compere for the evening was Patrick Monahan and acts included dance act Slam – who drummed on boxes and ladders – and piano-playing comedian Kevin Orkian.
Guests commented on the evening’s antics using the party’s Twitter hashtag . A screen displayed the tweets behind the entertainers during the show – Patrick Monohan used it to ask people to vote for which audience member should be set up on a date with a stripper, who performed a dance to much applause.
After the show, visitors gathered in the Upper River Room for more drinks, a salmon station and bowl food including chargrilled chicken with minted new potatoes, asparagus and hollandaise.
