Wilding will join the agency from Mindshare to replace Jonathan Fowles, who recently left the agency without a job to go to.
He has worked at Mindshare for several years as a planner on accounts including Nike and ITV and in 2007 was promoted to managing partner level.
PHD announced in December that Fowles would be leaving following discussions with chief executive Philippa Brown.
The agency had previously invested in its strategy team with the appointment of Hugh Cameron, the former DFGW and Freud Communications director, as chief strategy officer.
