The former World Cup-winner is rolling out a range of footwear to challenge established boot brands such as Nike, Adidas and Puma. Pelé was a brand ambassador for the latter at the last World Cup finals, in Germany in 2006.

Pelé Sports, which is being managed by a Swiss-based group of private investors, is in talks with production companies to create a series of 13 videos.

The films will feature a yet-to-be-cast South African teenager playing against youth football teams, each time selecting the best opponent to join his "dream team".

Negotiations are taking place for the chosen XI to take on a team "selected" by Nelson Mandela, the former president of South Africa.

According to Pelé Sports, the range will combine "Brazilian spirit" with Swiss engineering to strike "the perfect balance between performance, comfort and design".
