Patti appoints chief operating officer for Y&R New York

NEW YORK - Young & Rubicam has named John Morris as chief operating officer of its New York office, charged with running day-to-day operations at the agency, which is headed by Michael Patti.

Patti joined as chairman and CEO of Y&R's New York office in February this year from BBDO New York. He also holds the title of worldwide creative director and has appointed Morris to act as his partner in running the agency, according to reports.

Morris has been with the agency for 20 years and runs the Colgate account, handled by Y&R on a global basis. He will continue to run the Colgate account, for which he handles the US business.

Y&R has a history of having creatives run its flagship New York office, with Patti being the fourth person from that side of the business to do so. According to reports, Morris was appointed because of his inside knowledge of the agency.

Morris was appointed to Y&R's global leadership council when it was created in 2002.
