Dolan says 'flat' structure will make Y&R client-centric

NEW YORK - Young & Rubicam has created a global leadership council in a move it says will flatten its organisational structure so it can become more client focused.

The new council comprises 28 members from Y&R Advertising's global operations. The UK is represented by MT Rainey and Robert Campbell from Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe/Y&R; William Eccleshare, the chairman and chief executive of Y&R EMEA; and Kevin King, head of Y&R's Ford team in Europe.

Mike Dolan, chairman and CEO of Y&R Advertising, said that the reorganisation reflected the way business is done today. "In the past, agencies managed themselves geographically and hierarchically. That's no longer enough. The focus of the council will be squarely on delivering the best of the agency to clients, wherever they do business."

The council will govern the agency globally and it will be held accountable for the success of each member's individual area of operation, as well as the collective performance of the agency. It will meet on a quarterly basis, but work together on other issues in between.

"This infusion of new blood in our management circle will invigorate us and help us keep our clients front and centre," Dolan said.

Y&R Advertising is part of the WPP Group.

The council members are as follows:

Ron Bess (NY); June Blocklin (NY); Jane Brite (NY); Howard Breen (Chicago); Robert Campbell (London); Massimo Costa (Milan); Shelley Diamond (NY); Guillermo Diego (Miami); William Eccleshare (London); Jim Ferguson (NY); Neil French (Singapore); Eddie Gonzalez (Madrid); Chris Goodman (NY); Brian Harris (NY); Kevin King (London); Satish Korde (NY); Stephanie Kugelman (NY); Cathy Lasowski (Paris); Christian Liabastre (Paris); Gord McLean (NY); Craig Middleton (NY); John Morris (NY); David Murphy (Irvine); Arun Nanda (Mumbai); Guillermo Navarro (Madrid); John Partilla (NY); Ute Poprawe (Frankfurt); MT Rainey (London).
