The tent village, known as Staff Quarters, will sleep up to 3,000 people. It will be built on the playing fields at Bancroft Rugby Club in Essex, six tube stops from the Olympic Park at Stratford.
Each tent will hold one person and will cost from £15 per night. They can be hired exclusively by volunteers and staff working at the Games and Olympic-related events.
Jessica Bird, project manager at Oxygen told Event it is the first time the company has created accommodation space: "It’s just a good opportunity for the Olympics," she said. "It’s a service that is obviously needed: we’ve spoken to a number of people who are providing staff for the Games and they are all struggling to find accommodation and there have been reports that volunteers are struggling to find accommodation as well."
Tents can be upgraded for a charge, and space has been reserved for caravans to be parked on the fields.
Oxygen will also hold events in the village such as outdoor Games screenings and bars with live bands, comedy nights and silent discos. Agencies will also be able to train Olympic staff on the site in seminar areas.
