The seven-week programme will take place across parks, town centres and outdoor spaces in the capital’s 33 boroughs and forms part of the Mayor’s Cultural Strategy, aimed at bringing the arts to Londoners and the one million daily tourists set to visit over the summer.
Visual arts, performance, film and animation are just some of the attractions planned.
The Greater London Authority (GLA) has appointed public event specialist Allium Opus to orchestrate and project manage the venture.
"It is rare that an opportunity like this comes along, so we eagerly seized the chance to be part of this amazing show of local, national and international creativity," said Allium Opus director Will Glendinning.
"We will be working across the whole of London during the summer of 2012 to bring the arts to everyone's doorstep for free, which will be nothing short of fantastic."
The London Outdoor Arts Festival will run from 21 July - 9 September 2012.
