The UK-wide event will see more than 800 organisations host 1,600 events between 18 October and 3 November.
Organisers have revealed more than 25% of the festival’s events will be free, with a number of events costing less than £10.
The festival forms part of a two-year family arts campaign supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. It has been launched to develop the range and quality of arts events and activities available to families.
Alastair Tallon, campaign manager at the Family Arts 北京赛车pk10, told Event: "In our opening weekend we have had some really positive feedback, with more than 500 events either taking place or launching in the last few days."
He said the festival will run next year, on 17 October to 2 November 2014, and added there is interest for it to become an annual event.
"As we will be receiving funding from the Arts Council until 2015, we want to demonstrate that there is appetite not just from the arts sector but from the audience to continue the event beyond that," Tallon added.
Culture minister Ed Vaizey, who also helped to launch the Family Arts Festival, said: "With more than 1,600 events set to entertain families across the UK, the Family Arts Festival will truly have something for everyone.
"The UK’s cultural offerings are world renowned, and the festival is a brilliant way to get young children and families engaging with theatre, dance, comedy, painting and all the other aspects of the arts that are out there."
