Orange to launch IPTV offer this year

LONDON - Communications company Orange is to launch its IPTV service before the end of the year, with plans to offer a hybrid VoD and Freeview package.

Tim Pearson, director of IPTV at Orange UK, said that, with the IPTV platform coming on stream, the company is looking at offering clients the ability to run campaigns across its broadband, TV and mobile platforms.
Pearson said: “We can look at cross-platform advertising and that is an interesting set of inventory to exploit. We also have a mobile TV solution to sell across.
“Cross-platform ads is on my list to do but first I want to get the service right. With three platforms we could do multi-platform ads, but we need to work out the model.”
Orange TV will become the UK’s third IPTV service – along with Tiscali TV and BT Vision. To date, only one content partner has been announced, Disney, although Pearson said a handful of deals with major content players have already been finalised.
Pearson added: “We have a range of other content deals across film, TV and music.
“At Orange, we already have relationships with major content companies and we are working to extend these.”
As part of the France Telecom group, Pearson noted that Orange UK will lean on the experience of the company in operating its pay-TV service.
France Telecom operates IPTV services in markets including France, Poland and Spain.
