Ricky Gervais, the creator and star of The Office, plays an anti-spokesman in new ads announcing that Netflix is coming to Australia thanks to a streaming deal with Optus. The ads were created by Emotive – APN News & Media’s content arm – M&C Saatchi Australia and Fuel Communications, although Gervais wrote the script himself. In one of the online spots, Gervais boasts about how much he was paid to do the ad and how little effort he was willing to put into it. He signs off by saying that, no matter how bad it was, Optus would still run the spot.
