The London Assembly yesterday (18 January) unanimously supported the establishment of a mayoral development area in and around the park. It will now be formally established by parliament.

The OPLC will become part of a Mayoral Development Corporation which will be responsible for planning decisions in the park and an area around it including Fish Island and Eton Manor.

London Assembly deputy chair Dee Doocey said: "The Assembly has always believed that the most important benefit of hosting the 2012 Games is the opportunity to revitalise the East End of London. The creation of a Mayoral Development Corporation sets a clear structure to deliver that regeneration and places responsibility for it firmly in the hands of the Mayor."

The OPLC today revealed shortlisted bidders to redevelop its Press and Broadcast Centres after the Games. They could become a UK fashion hub, an ‘Oxylane Village’ offering retail, events and research space or ‘Innovation City’ which would create technical facilities including a computing centre and research labs.
