Official UK Charts Company appoints Millward Brown

LONDON - The Official UK Charts Company has appointed the charts research contract to Millward Brown for a further four years.

The Official UK Charts Company compiles the UK's audio and video charts – including the Top 40 Singles, Albums and Digital Download charts.

With the new contract, Millward Brown will have held the UK charts account for 17 years, longer than any other research company since the charts first began in 1952.

Omar Maskatiya, OCC charts director, said: "Millward Brown has demonstrated that their efficiency and quantitative research skills are second to none."

Bob Barnes, head of the Millward Brown Charts Unit, added: "The music and video markets are incredibly dynamic and both are experiencing a significant period of change with the introduction of new download platforms and next generation physical formats.”

Millward Brown collects sales data daily from more than 6,000 entertainment retailers including all major internet download sites in the UK and Northern Ireland.

A key element of the new contract includes the introduction of a new version of the OCC online system, a web-based portal that allows OCC subscribers to dynamically interrogate sales data for any item of audio or video product at any point during the last decade.

The new system includes improvements to OCC's analysis of the entertainment sector and in particular the addition of retail value information as a new data stream.
