The O2 owner AEG awaiting approval for major London awards venue

AEG, the company which owns The O2, is awaiting planning permission to build a 3,000-delegate conference and event space next to The O2 Arena.

Planning permission is pending for what is reported to be one of London's biggest awards spaces, in a location next to the O2 Arena.

In a move , AEG is also reported to be planning a grass area on the roof of the new structure.

"AEG are considering options for the development of a 450 bed four star hotel, and this will include a significant events and banqueting centre," said an AEG spokeswoman.
 
"We are in the final stages of the planning application with Greenwich Council, HCA, CABE and representatives from the Mayor's office and hope to announce further details early in the New Year."

A major jobs boon is expected if the venue gets the go-ahead. It would reportedly open next spring.
