Ovi Lifecasting, which is currently in testing phase, requires a Nokia N97 phone and alllows users to post the street address they are at, enabling friends to see their location on a map.
Users can also take a photo of the area they are in and upload it with their Facebook post.
The location-based Facebook service comes after rival .
Ovi Lifecasting's location feature runs via a separate application that Nokia has simultaneously launched in beta phase called Ovi Maps.
Ovi Maps allows users to find their current location, places nearby and addresses that they are looking for. These addresses can be permanently saved for future use.
It also features real-time car and pedestrian navigation.
At the Nokia World 2009 event today in Stuttgart, Germany, the firm also launched the N97 Mini, which is thinner, smaller and lighter than the N97 and features the new Lifecasting software.
The N97 Mini will be available from October for around £400.
