Nissan creates 'first-ever' Flash-enabled phone app

Nissan has developed what it claims is the first-ever Flash-enabled smartphone app, which can be viewed via a browser instead of being downloaded.

The Nissan Juke Power-Up app, which has been developed by the research and development arm of French agency Digitas, is available online. Consumers can view it via their phone’s browser rather than downloading it from an app store.

It is aiming the app at owners of Google Android phones. Android 2.2 owners can obtain the app, which has been devised to publicise this month's launch of Nissan’s Juke, by visiting .

The app tells users to shake their handset as vigorously as they can to measure their intensity, adrenaline and energy levels. The results are then posted to the users' friends on Facebook.

Gareth Dunsmore, Nissan Europe’s digital manager, said: "By working with Digitas to create the first Flash-enabled app, we believe we’re shifting the boundaries of how the public can download content onto their phones and pioneering future industry development. This could even lead to the death of the app store."

However, owners of iPhones will not be able to use the app because Apple does not support Flash on its phones.
