Next generation iPhone could already be in testing stage

LONDON - The makers of an iPhone app that helps users navigate the San Francisco train system have reported that a previously unknown model of the phone has been using the app, leading to rumours that the next generation of the handset is already being tested.

Pandav, which makes the iBart app, listed as iPhone 3.1, a code which insiders say is hitherto unused.

Earlier in November there were reports that Chinese manufacturers had started making parts of the iPhone 4G, as it is dubbed. As far back as August, there have been reports of references to iPhone 3.1.

Little is known about what new features it will include, although it is thought that it might allow users to have more than one application open at a time.

The most recent model of iPhone to launch is the 3GS. There was around an eight month gap between the first reports of it being used and its launch on the market earlier this year.
